Respondents of Czech adverbs of quantity in Spanish (contrastive corpus analysis)

The subject of this bachelor thesis are the Respondents of Czech adverbs of quantity in Spanish. The objective of this thesis is to perform an analysis of means of expression, which in Spanish corresponds to the meanings expressed in Czech by the adverbs of quantity. The work is divided into a theoretical part and a practical part. The theoretical part is mainly focused on the concept of the topic in the grammars written in the Spanish and Czech language and the practical part is focused on the analysis of selected adverbs of quantity in the InterCorp corpus. The conclusion then is made based on the corpus analysis afterwards.

Translation of movie subtitles from a sociocultural perspective

The present thesis focuses on the translation of sociocultural phenomena in movie subtitles. The paper is of a theoretical-empirical nature. Firstly it outlines the basic terms, namely "dialect", "sociolect" and "realia" and describes their function in movie dialogue. Subsequently the attention is given to the technical and linguistic characteristics of subtitling. The paper then examines the ways of translating the given sociocultural aspects from both descriptive and prescriptive perspectives. In the empirical part, actual examples of the transfer of substandard sociolects and realia, stemming from the movies Entre les murs and Un prophète, are analyzed and commented on. Software for creating movie title sequence

This Paper is focused on title sequences that are part of every movie. The goal of the thesis is to compare the effectiveness of three graphic programs in creating film titles. The theoretical part is devoted to the history of creating titles, individual elements involved in the production of titles, and trends in modern titles. In the practical part I worked with three different graphics programs Cinema4D, After Effects, Element 3D and I tried to compare them based on three areas while I was creating the exact same title sequence in each one of them. The three areas that I was comparing them in are: how long it took me to make the title, how easy and intuitive the controls of the software are, and the cost effectiveness. By this comparison I reached to the conclusion that the best suitable graphic program for creating title sequence and working with 3D text would be Element 3D.

Prologue

In film, the term “prologue” nowadays denotes almost everything that appears before the opening credits. The meaning of this word is not fixed. This thesis does not define the “prologue” phenomenon and does not wish to describe it in the historical context of art spheres. It deals with the opening scenes at the beginning of a film before the onset of the actual composition of the main story and addresses their functions in the entire dramaturgic structure of the work. To facilitate the apprehension and description of “prologue”, the thesis attempts to generalise the term and classify it into several groups according to defined criteria. It does not set itself the objective of forming a definition but of analysing the dramaturgic structure of a conventionally understood term “prologue” and initiating a discussion on all fronts of the film-making profession about this tool that can do more than just touching up the first few minutes of a film.
